LigoWave Empowers Cyprus AIRNETWORX Project to Achieve Wide-Area Wi-Fi Coverage

LigoWave is a personalized brand customized for our clients, exclusive for expanding overseas markets.

The AIRNETWORX wireless network project is implemented by Sistem Co Ltd in Cyprus, aiming to solve the weak telecom connectivity problem in the northern part of the island and significantly expand Wi-Fi coverage. In this project, Sistem Co Ltd is responsible for the overall architecture design and engineering implementation, while LigoWave experts provided critical technical support and knowledge sharing, jointly creating an efficient and stable wireless network infrastructure.

II. Challenges Faced

During the project implementation process, the team faced multiple tests of technology, environment, and cost:

  • Complex Geography and Network Topology: The unique terrain of Northern Cyprus requires backhaul solutions to be professional enough to provide high-throughput connectivity for remote areas. At the same time, the network needs to possess high PPS (Packet Per Second) forwarding rates to ensure the smooth transmission of large data volumes.
  • Severe Spectrum Noise Interference: Some equipment deployment areas are close to GSM base stations and other wireless network facilities, making the spectrum environment extremely complex. To address this, the team specially designed and installed aluminum shielding covers, successfully isolating interference from GSM base station antennas.
  • Cost-Efficiency Control: Although the application scenario has extremely high requirements for equipment quality, the overall solution must maintain cost-efficiency, requiring the best balance point between performance and budget.

III. Solution and Technology Selection

To overcome the above challenges, the AIRNETWORX project abandoned traditional telecommunications infrastructure and instead built independent wireless links. The backbone link uses LigoPTP series products, while base station coverage selects Deliberant series products.

3.1 Core Equipment Deployment

Network Backbone: LigoPTP UNITY 5-N

As the transmission core of the backbone network, this equipment perfectly ensures a stable capacity of at least 130 Mbps, with excellent anti-interference capabilities, guaranteeing the main link is unimpeded.

Base Station Coverage: Deliberant Series

Selecting models such as DLB-5M-90, DLB-5M-18, and DLB-Propeller 5 to flexibly handle coverage needs of different distances (3km – 7km).

IV. Implementation Results and Future Outlook

The AIRNETWORX project has currently achieved significant results. Sistem Co Ltd. has provided internet services for 4 major cities and over 200 villages in Northern Cyprus, with a coverage range reaching 1800 kilometers.

  • Performance: Despite varied spectrum environments, at all deployment locations, every CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) can achieve a stable throughput of 8 Mbps, and the backbone network provides 130 Mbps wireless service capability.
  • Service Diversity: The network not only provides basic internet access but also supports L2 and L3 services. L3 services are based on the PPPoE protocol, while L2 services are realized through point-to-point VLAN applications.
  • Future Planning: The project is still in a continuous development stage. The first year focused on infrastructure construction, and the next two years will be dedicated to optimizing wireless network performance, aiming to expand the network coverage range to 2800 square kilometers.
